Every time we start a new month, we reach a milestone.  If you had asked me last summer whether I thought we would still be learning in person in February, I would have expressed some serious doubts.  For sure, the Alcott community has recently encountered some COVID challenges.  However, public health officials feel comfortable that, with the classroom closures we have implemented, the situation has been contained.  Of course, Dr. Hunter and I are monitoring everything very closely and will continue to be in close communication should anything change.  In the meantime, I have several other updates to share in

Welcome Back!!  I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation.  As much as I continue to miss being able to spend time with my extended family and friends, I was grateful for the time I had with nowhere to be with my immediate family.  With vaccine distribution underway and 2020 officially behind us, there is a spirit of optimism in the air even as social distancing continues to be critical.  With an end in sight (albeit in the distance) and with four months of successful in person pandemic learning under our belts, I am eager to see what the rest of

Letter from the Principal – December 2020 Wow!  It is hard to believe that December is here and school is still open for in person learning.  I feel incredibly grateful that this is the case!  I hope that you all had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break.  December always feels like a busy month and this one will be no different! COVID Updates: We are incredibly fortunate that we currently have no instances of school based COVID transmission.  This is a great sign that masks, distancing, testing and quarantine protocols are working effectively.  However, with cases increasing, we do expect

Principal’s Updates November 2, 2020 It feels like I say this at the beginning of so many communications to families, but it bears repeating how grateful I feel every morning that I get to come to school in person!  I wasn’t sure how long school would remain open for in person learning, but I can tell you that making it to November feels like an incredible accomplishment.  A heartfelt thanks go out to all of the families, staff and students for doing their part to keep our community as healthy as possible so that our doors can remain open for

Letter From the Principal – October 2020 In the last few days, it has really started to look like fall outside!  This feels like quite a milestone given that, just a month ago, we were still finalizing preparations to reopen schools after the extended closure.  Eighteen days into our in person reopening and things are going incredibly well.  Students are embracing old routines and adjusting to new ones.  Everyone is being incredibly flexible when we encounter bumps in the road.  As the weather continues to change and we approach the cold and flu season, I know that new challenges will

Principal Update – May 1, 2020 Dear Alcott Families, I wanted to invite all of you to participate in a parent meeting next Wednesday, May 6 at 2:30pm.  This will be an opportunity to learn about Phase 3 and ask any questions that you may have (about Phase 3 or otherwise).  Zoom details will be emailed closer to the date.  If you are unable to attend or just prefer individual communication over a community forum, please do not hesitate to email me with your questions or concerns at any time. I also wanted to touch on two frequently asked questions ahead of

Letter from the Principal – March 2020 I know I have said this in other newsletters, but it is really hard to believe how quickly this year is flying by!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful, restful February vacation. School starts to get very busy as it gets closer to springtime.  I can’t wait to experience my first spring at Alcott! Climate Survey: Concord Public Schools is looking for feedback from families!  In the coming weeks, families will receive a link to complete a school climate survey.  The information you share will help us to understand what families think

Letter from the Principal – February 4, 2020 It feels like the month of January just flew by!  After a snowy December, we managed to make it through the last month without a single snow day.  Do you think we’ll have the same luck in February?! Winter Luncheon: I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the PTG sponsored staff luncheon such a wonderful event last Tuesday.  I know I speak for the entire staff when I say that we all really appreciated the opportunity to take a break from our busy schedules to enjoy a

Letter from the Principal – January 6, 2020 Happy New Year!!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful vacation and was able to spend time with family and friends.  It’s hard to believe that we just entered a new decade! I look forward to seeing what the new year will bring at school! Staffing Changes: I want to extend a warm welcome to two new staff members.  Joelle Bottasso will be covering in 1st grade for the rest of the year for Mrs. McGuire.  Jennifer Sullivan will be joining us at the end of January to fill in for Ms.
