Curriculum

This is our Semester 1 Spanish Curriculum for each grade level:

1st Grade Semester 1

Part of our class routine is learning to identify the days of the week through the calendar, also answering the question “¿Cómo estás?” (How are you feeling?) in the target language.

In first grade students learned about Ratoncito Pérez (The Tooth Mouse) and how to use Spanish and/or gestures to say, “I have a loose tooth” or “I lost a tooth.” Through a variety of songs, games, and activities, students have been using Spanish to count from 0 - 10 and name some body parts.

In January, first graders started to learn the beginning verses of the very popular nursery rhyme “Los pollitos”, as well as the names of some farm animals.

2nd Grade Semester 1

Part of our class routine is learning to identify the days of the week and months through the calendar activity, also answering the question “¿Cómo estás?” (How are you feeling?) in the target language.

In second grade we continue to review colors and numbers (0-20).

Through a variety of songs, games, and activities students have been learning how to name family members and pets, as well as ways to describe them in Spanish.  Students are also able to answer the questions “When is your birthday?” and “How old are you?” when asked in Spanish.

In February, students will learn vocabulary related to winter (clothing and weather).

3rd Grade Semester 1

Part of our class routine is learning to identify the days of the week and months through the calendar activity, also answering the question “¿Cómo estás?” (How are you feeling?) in the target language.

In third grade, we continue to review colors, numbers (0-40), adjectives, and simple phrases. Through a variety of songs, games, gestures, and activities students have been learning how to name the foods we eat for lunch and snacks in Spanish.

In February, students will use Spanish to name animals and fruit from tropical forests.

4th Grade Semester 1

Part of our class routine is learning to identify the days of the week and months through the calendar activity, also answering the question “¿Cómo estás??”/ ”¿Qué día es hoy?” / “¿Qué día es mañana?” (How are you feeling?/ What day is today? / What day is tomorrow?) in the target language.

In fourth grade, we continue to review numbers (0-50). We also read two short stories in Spanish about school subjects and the supplies/materials needed for each class.

In February, students will learn about Colombia.  In class, students will be reading an authentic story from Colombia.

5th Grade Semester 1

Part of our class routine is learning to identify the days of the week and months through the calendar activity, also answering the question “¿Cómo estás??”/ ”¿Qué día es hoy?” / “¿Qué día es mañana?” (How are you feeling?/ What day is today? / What day is tomorrow?) in the target language.

In fifth grade, we continue to review numbers (0-70). Students learned the names of Hispanic countries and how to identify their flag and/or geographic location.  We also learned about influential Hispanic figures.

In February, students will read stories that are a staple of Latin American culture, “Lucha Libre.”
