November 1, 2021

I hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well!  In November’s newsletter you will find information about conferences, recaps of October events, a link to the student handbook and more!

Elementary Conferences: This is just a reminder that there is no school for students on Thursday, November 4th on account of elementary conferences.  Please see here for a letter from Kristen Herbert, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, and myself regarding student progress and conferences.

Turkey Trot: Due to last week’s Nor’easter, our annual Turkey Trot was rescheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, November 3rd.  We are all very excited for the return of this long standing Alcott tradition!  For more information, check out the Turkey Trot page on our PTGs website: http://alcottptg.org/turkey-trot

Family Events: I want to extend a big thank you to our PTG and our METCO Family Friends committees for organizing two great family events last month.  The METCO Family Friends Fall Field Day at Franklin Park in Boston was a huge success as was the PTG sponsored fall movie night. After a year and a half with few opportunities for families to connect outside of school, it felt great to finally have some events that brought the Alcott community together.  We look forward to more as the year progresses!

Elementary School Handbook: I wanted to make sure everyone knows that the CPS Elementary Student Handbook is available on Alcott’s website.  This handbook is full of all sorts of helpful information and is a good place to look if you have questions about district policies.  Of course, you are always welcome to contact the main office with these sorts of questions too!

Vaccine Clinics: In case you missed Dr. Hunter’s email last week, in expectation of the approval of a COVID vaccine for children, local health officials are preparing to offer a vaccine clinic for students between the ages of 5 and 12.  The first dose would take place the weekend of November 20 and 21 and the second dose would take place the weekend of December 11 and 12.  If you are interested in taking part in this vaccine clinic, please complete this survey (COVID Vaccine Clinic Survey) by the end of the week.

Lunch in Cafeteria: This is just a reminder that the outdoor tents will be coming down within the next few weeks.  We will be using the cafeteria during inclement weather and after the tents come down.  We hope to be able to squeeze out a little bit more time to eat outdoors.  However, the cafeteria is now set up with individual desks to accommodate socially distanced indoor eating.   Fortunately, this shift to eating indoors coincides with the imminent approval of a vaccine for children!
