Software At Home
Lexia Reading Core5
Lexia Reading Core5 covers the six areas of reading for students of all abilities in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 5: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Structural Analysis, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. Unlike many other computer programs, Lexia Reading Core5 is customized to each individual student. After an Auto Placement assessment, each student follows a personalized set of lessons with adaptive placement and activities specifically designed for the Common Core. Students of all abilities work at their own level and at their own pace. The program provides explicit instruction and practice for struggling students and it gives advanced students the opportunity to work at a faster pace on above-grade level skills. The student data from the program is immediately available to Alcott classroom teachers, who can use the action plans to design instruction and help students reach grade level benchmarks.
Either of the two options below will allow all K-5 Alcott students to access Lexia Reading Core5 at home in the same manner that it is used here at school:
Using any Internet browser, access the Alcott School home page at http://alcott.concordps.org. In the “Students” section of the Navigation Bar, you will find a direct link to the Concord Public Schools login for Lexia Reading Core5. On this page, your child can input his/her username and password and then he/she will be logged in to the actual program. It is important to have the most current version of Adobe Flash Player installed when accessing Lexia Reading Core5 online—without it, you will receive a “plugin error” message.
Using an iPad or iPad Mini, please visit the App Store and search for Lexia Reading Core5. The App is a free download. When the App is opened for the first time, you will be presented with a set-up screen for your device. Click on the Student/Parent button and input the following teacher email address in the field provided: email@example.com. This generic email address allows all Alcott students to use the App with his/her unique username and password.
DreamBox is an “online, Intelligent Adaptive Learning program that helps all students achieve better, faster math proficiency”. There is no software to download and install, though a current version of Adobe Flash is required when you are working on a computer.
To access DreamBox Learning, students in grades K-5 need to load the Alcott School home page at http://alcott.concordps.org. In the “Students” section of the Navigation Bar, you will find a direct link to DreamBox Learning. On the first Alcott Class page, your child needs to select his/her teacher. On the next page, students in grades 2-5 will then input their username and password (no extra characters are required, such as 'alc'). Students in kindergarten and grade 1 will need to choose the name/avatar that they pre-selected and then the appropriate image for their password.
When using an iPad or an iPad Mini, you will need to have the App installed in order to access DreamBox. Please visit the App Store and search for DreamBox Math. You will find both a Dreambox Green App and a Dreambox Blue App. DreamBox Green contains instructional content for grades K-5. DreamBox Blue contains instructional content for grades 5-8. Both Apps are a free download to your device. When either App is opened for the first time, you will be presented with a set-up screen for your device. The school code for Alcott is 42nr/alcott. Once inputted in the device, your child can login with his/her unique username and password.
Type To Learn 4
Mastering keyboarding involves learning proper technique, ergonomics, and key location. Here at Alcott we use Sunburst Technology’s Type to Learn 4: Agents of Information software beginning in grade 3. This software “provides a research-based interactive learning environment… where technique and ergonomics are addressed from the beginning and reinforced throughout the curriculum. Key location is taught in cumulative sequence where new keys are integrated with previously learned skills and highly motivational activities are provided to encourage and reinforce practice.”
To access Type To Learn 4, students in grades 2-5 need to load the Alcott School home page at http://alcott.concordps.org. In the “Students” section of the Navigation Bar, you will find a direct link to Type To Learn 4. On the next page, students in grades 2-5 will then input their username and password (no extra characters are required, such as 'alc'). The account code for Alcott is 2BUTCA. Once logged in, students can review their current accuracy and goal before choosing to Launch Type To Learn.
If you have any questions about your child’s username or password for any of these programs, please send me an email and I will reply with the proper login credentials. I would also be happy to help with any accessibility difficulties.
