Alcott News from the Desk of the Principal
December 2, 2017

My hope is that this holiday season is spent with family and friends! Please accept my heartfelt wish for a happy and healthy season.

Arrival/Dismissal Times: The students begin to transition to their classrooms at 8:50 AM. All students should be in their classrooms by 9:00 AM and will be dismissed at 3:30 PM. Every Tuesday is an early release day with students leaving at 12:30. Kindergarten students have an early release on Thursday too. Please make note of the arrival and dismissal times.

Parent’s Driving to School:

  • If you plan to drive your child, please drop off your child in the Drop-Off area. The Drop-Off area is labeled as you drive into the school parking lot on the right. Please enter the first driveway, stop at the curb to allow your child to exit the car on the curbside, and then drive out to exit.
  • Please do not park in that area in the morning because it creates a hazard for others.
  • If you would like to walk your child to the front door, please park your car in a parking space and walk your child to the front door.
  • Cars are not allowed on the road in front of the school, which is considered a bus lane, during arrival and dismissal times.
  • It is against the law to drive by buses with their lights flashing. Thank you for helping to keep all students safe.

Elementary Progress Reports: On or around February 2nd, classroom progress reports will be published through the Aspen Portal in the Published Reports section on the front page of the portal. If you have multiple children attending Concord Public Schools or Concord-Carlisle High School, each child’s name will appear next to any available reports. Reports can be downloaded and saved as pdf files if you wish. With the exception of specialized reports (Special Education or English Language Learner), reports will no longer be mailed.

To access the portal, login from the Parent menu of your child’s school website. (A link to request a password reset can also be found at this website or email parentportal@concordps.org.) If you have not already done so, please set a security question upon logging into the portal, so that you can self-recover if you forget your password in the future; password resets are addressed during business hours only.

Picture Re-Takes will occur on Wednesday, December 6th. If you are interested in having your child’s picture re-taken, please notify the office. Thank you!

Lesley Innovation STEAM Activities: On Wednesday, December 6th all classes will rotate through different stations to engage in hands-on STEAM activities. This event will be led by Lesley STEAM Trainers and supported by parent volunteers. Thank you to the parent volunteers facilitating events that day and also participating in the training earlier in the week.

Middle School Sponsored Coats for Kids: Concord Middle School’s Coats for Kids needs the elementary schools’ help in collecting coats for Anton’s Cleaners Annual Coats for Kids Drive. We are accepting all winter coats – kids, adults, and babies – that are in good wearable condition. We cannot accept vests, hats, gloves, or snow pants. Please donate coats that you would give a friend to wear. Coats are being collected now through January 8, 2018. Thank you for your generosity. Your donations are greatly appreciated!

Winter is coming: Please have your child dress for the weather. The warmest part of the day is during school hours and I will be sending your child outside for recess. I am a firm believer in dressing for the weather and getting outside to enjoy it. Please send your child with a hat, gloves, snow pants, etc. so that they are prepared to enjoy this season! It is helpful to have your child’s name in each article of clothing to increase the likelihood of it being returned to your child. Thank you!

Changes to your child’s dismissal plans: Please send in an Alcott Dismissal Note with your child if you plan to change his/her dismissal plans for that day. Sample Dismissal Notes are online at the Alcott School website or on the PTG website (alcottowl.org). If an emergency arises during the day and parents need to change their child’s dismissal plan, please notify the front office by 2:30 PM. Only emergency dismissals will be accepted after 2:30, because we cannot guarantee that we can notify your child’s teacher of that change after that time. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Free and Reduced Lunch paperwork: If you are eligible for this support, please obtain the form from the District Website and submit it as soon as possible. Parents have to re-apply each year for this support.
