Dear Alcott Families,
I’m enjoying my Alcott experience during this “most wonderful time of the year.” The excitement around school events is palpable!
This week and next week, students in every class will do an “Hour of Code” workshop with Mr. Peachey. You can get more information about this activity at: http://alcott.concordps.org/jpeachey/hourofcode/
This week, we had a very successful Holiday Fair! Fifth graders were treated to a performance by the Concord Middle School’s Honors Choir, third graders attended an assembly with meteorologist Bri Eggers and fourth graders were visited by author, Jacqueline Davies. We will have a whole school meeting on December 21 where, in addition to singing holiday songs, students and teachers will celebrate the results of the Turkey Trot Fundraiser and the Mittens for Minuteman ARC. These past two weeks saw the return of Ms. Young! She’ll be with us through December 21.
As we head toward the holiday break, I need to ask for your help. Friday morning I counted 48 students in the front hall before 8:50 AM. Teachers come on duty at 8:50 to supervise students as they go to their classrooms. Prior to that time, there is no supervision. I am concerned about student safety. As the front hall becomes more crowded, there is jostling and other types of horseplay. Please do not drop off your child before 8:50. You are welcome to wait with your child if you drop him or her off prior to that time. Another option, if you need to drop off early, is the Before School Program offered through the Concord Recreation Department. Information about this program can be found at http://www.concordrec.com/162/After-School-Before-School-Programs. Need-based scholarships are available.
As we move into winter, please send your child prepared to go outside. Students learn better when they get an opportunity to take a break and get outside, so please send in clothes and dress them for the weather.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the upcoming school events. I want to wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season.
